Should I?

Ford will be lying in state (I think that's what it's called) close to me next week. Do ya'll think I should take time off work to bring Ayla there to experience it?

Or is any death just to be avoided? I can't imagine we would ever have this chance again. So I'm torn on deciding what to do.

Personally? I would do it. It's something that once passes, you can't go back and do. Death can't be avoided so it's really just a personal decision that you have to make. I would definitely do it if it were here.

She doesn't go back to school til Wednesday, and I think the viewing is Tuesday. hmmmmmmm

If it's something you are comfortable doing, then I would do it if I were you.

I think I would also do it. I didn't go up to see Reagan, and there are times when I wish I had.

Adding.

As long as it wouldn't freak her out about seeing a dead person.

I really don't like seeing people in coffins. But I also think that has a lot to do with me not wanting my last image of someone to be that person in a coffin.

A president, however, is a different story.

Yep, I agree with Boo's last statement. I refuse to walk up to a coffin for the same reasons. But a President is definitely different.

I would go. That's something that's more than just a death.

I would take her. It's a history moment and seeing the other people there, the guards, etc. will give her a perspective on life & national service that she has maybe never had before.

Plus she can always say she was there.

I would if it were close by. I think there is so much disrespect towards goverment these days, that it's also important for children to learn that government is very important and real. Showing respect for former President Ford is a good way to make it "real" to her.

Do it. I think it would be a great experience, as she's old enough to understand death.

What Swami said about national service really resonates with me, too.

I agree. Be prepared for crowds and lines.

It looks like he won't be lying in repose in GR until after 3:30 Tuesday. I think we'll go after work.

Definitely go. When the US Capitol Police officer who was shot in the Capitol was lying in state in the Rotunda, I got to go. It was incredibly moving.

I agree with just about everybody else. Sounds like an great opportunity for learning and talking.

I agree with Monsty. I have decided that my New Year's Resolution will be to agree with everything Monsty says.

And my NYR will be to agree with everything that Augie says.

I'd totally do it, except for the fact that it's probably going to be a huge crowd, and I don't like crowds so much.
