A little too fishy?

That's what DD thought about the college last week. Ha!

While they seemed to have a great biology department and small enough that she would get a lot of hands on work, they may be a little too fish orientated for her.

The campus tour was very nice and she was overwhelmed with information, but is now ready to visit a few other campuses to compare schools. Yay?

Fast Trip

We have our first college visit next week.  We're visiting a college up in the UP and then heading to my Mom's for a weekend quick visit.

It was supposed to be a weekend visit, but DD realized she has to be back here on Sunday for life guard orientation at 1 for her summer job. *sigh*  So we'll have to get up early at the butt crack of dawn to drive back home.

It's all going by too fast!  Prom this weekend, college visit next weekend and then she starts her job the following the weekend.  Summer!

I sure hope I can have some lazy summer days soon.

Another one!?!?!

"Hey Mom, remember J my best friend in 4th grade".  No, not really.  I thought you hung out with A that year.  "No I didn't meet A until 5th grade".  So why do I need to remember J?  "Here's a pic of her and her baby on FB."

Another one!?!??!  This will be the 4th? 5th? 4th?  girl that DD used to hang out with that has had a baby.  What the heck!!?!?!?

Why?  I'm not sure in the last case, but in the others it was a cycle that wasn't broken.  They were all daughters of teen Moms.  !?!?!?!  You would think their Mom's would want to break the cycle.  It breaks my heart to see these children having children.

No Instruction Manual

When are you supposed to visit colleges?  When do you apply?  How do you help them choose?

We had a book to help at the beginning, why no book now?!?!?!

We're planning on visiting a couple schools in May, before her summer job starts. She's planning on applying to Lake Superior State, Grand Valley and MSU.  Gah! MSU!?!?!  Will she be ok at that big of a school!?!?!

I'm telling you this end is almost as scary as the beginning was.  What if I mess up?  What if I give her bad advice?  Should I just shove her out the door and say figure it out yourself?

I Wanna Be A Lifeguard

I wanna guard your life!  You all remember that song, right? Right!?!?!?

Weird the girl in this pic even looks like DD.  She will be a lifeguard at the water park in MI Adventure this summer.  Her first summer job! Woooohoooooo!!!!!!!!!!

What was your first summer job?  Mine was working in a bridal shop, mainly just answering the phone and stuff... it wasn't that busy of a place.  But I did get to measure some of the hot highschool boys for their tuxes for the prom. *waggles eyebrows*

A Year Later...

... and I still hate 1099s!!!

Kim made me.   I do miss blogs.  Honestly FB can be a pain some time, between the random pic/sayings that are posted constantly and the TMI?  I could go days without checking it, and according to my teen daughter FB is lame and boring.  I've decided that blogs are cool again then.  Right? Right!

Musing #1: How did I get so lucky and have a child that doesn't cause me daily grief?  I'm scared that I'll be paying for that in my life later.

Musing #2: Why can't my relationship be as easy as that?  Some days I think I'm not cut out to be part of a couple.  I crave solitude and aloneness too much, I think.

Musing #3: I want a lab puppy.

Musing #4: We've actually had a winter this year and I'm tired of it.  It can go away now.  It was pretty, it was cold, I relearned driving in snow/ice; now GO AWAY!

Musing #5: Daniel Craig makes me tingle all over.  Why is he the only Bond that really gets beat up?  DBF commented on that last night during SkyFall.

Mother's Curse

You all know about the Mother's Curse, right?  "I hope you have a child like you someday!!!"

Well, Mom, sorry but didn't work.  I have the best daughter ever.

I listen to coworkers and friends complain about their daughters and the mouth, their daughters and getting homework done, their daughters and bad grades.  I just smile and nod and try to say the right thing.

Ayla is 16, I know what was going through my horrid hormonal brain then.  I know what some of my friends were up to then, whether they had tried smoking.... drinking.... drugs....sex.... by 16.  I'm not saying she's an angel.... well not every day any way.  But she's pretty darn good.  She does her homework without being told.  She studies for test without being told.  She strives to get the best grade she can.  She helps out when asked to.  Is her room a mess sometimes? Yes.  Does she grumble about doing the dishes some nights? Yes.  But those are the little things.  I only want to fight about the big things with her.  Picking my battles.

You all have to celebrate with us.  Augie and her Ravens, Bravie and her Niners and me and the Pack.

I posted a healthy chicken nacho recipe to my healthy blog, that I might make for just me.  Ayla and Phil will turn their noses up at chicken nacho, they want beef! Well venison really but you know what I mean.  Although venison is very lean and healthy so may just make my half with more veggies and black beans.

Oh and have I mentioned lately? I hate 1099s.  What you've heard that one before?  Just last week?

Cheesy Creamy Italian Chicken

4-6 chicken breasts (I used 4)
1 packet italian dressing mix
8 oz brick cream cheese
1 can cream of chicken

Plop it all in a crock and cook on low 6 hours, serve over rice or pasta.  So good, even Ayla ate it.

Blogging for 2012

I miss it. I'm trying to think up a challenge for myself to use my blogs again next year.

I'm thinking of like I did before on my Healthy one doing recipes once a week. Maybe a craft or a craft idea once a week on my craft one and then some sort of update here?

And as I reread the front page here, I'm still in that same "bump" space I was a year ago. How sad!

I have a new, brand new treadmill. I've used it twice. *hangs head*

Ayla is in marching band again this year and I'm even more involved with the board this year, I'm a trustee on the board even! This weekend we will be at the Silverdome, we leave Friday after school and perform on Saturday. I'm chaperoning. *shiver* Sleeping on a gym floor. *double shiver*
